Trip to the Ocean

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Middle of July, hotel with ocean views, grandma in tow for babysitting, prettiest beach town in Washington...sounds like a dream come true, huh? Well here is what a Washington beach in the middle of July looks like

The first day we were there it was cloudy, windy and you couldn't even see the ocean from the beach let alone our hotel room!
Boyce was happy to be inside the car!
Our next day was completely different! This was a new beach with lots of rocks that the waves crashed up on. We also saw a sea lion popping its head out of the water.

This was the same beach as the first day. It was a lot clearer but still pretty cool. The water is amazingly cold. And yet, there were still people in swimsuits that were determined to enjoy their summer vacation!
Kite flying is the thing to do on the beaches there. Gage was absolutely amazed at them all!

Gage is such a sweetheart! ha.

Hawaiian Night

So, I finally have a camera again! If you've wondered about the lack of posts it has to do with having no camera and having a lot less free time lately. But I'm hoping to catch up. Jake had a work deal that was a Hawaiian theme and so we joined in the fun. I'm kind of sad that we don't have more Hawaiian things to go to because they all actually look pretty cute in their garb.

A little Summertime

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

We actually had a hot spell for a couple days. We headed to Olympia to a water pod to spend the afternoon. The older kids loved it, Gage wasn't so sure about the whole thing, and Boyce just hung out. We ended the afternoon with a trip to Red Robin, the first and only time we ate out at a restaurant while Jake was gone. Apparently, we were quite the spectacle and everyone pointed, gawked and whispered about the lady who was by herself with four kids who actually went out to eat!

Slacker

Sorry I've been slacking.

Here's what I learned this week, or the last couple weeks

Time is a matter of perspective...the five months that Boyce has been alive have gone really fast, the one month of Jake being gone took forever, the two months before he leaves will fly by and the next year will seem like an eternity.

Boys will be boys, Gage loves tooting, helicopters, planes, and the tv show wipeout. He laughs hysterically at the show.

There are lots of ants in washington, apparently they like to hang out in bathrooms rather than kitchens.

Even though it is July, I need to make sure I bring winter clothes to football games.

Those glow in the dark sticks are $1 at Michael's for 15 of them. It was the best $1 I ever spent and kept my kids entertained the whole time while we waited for fireworks. Probably more fun than the $20 we spent on two rides at the fair.

Collecting specimens of your child's poop and smearing them on cards is not the most fun thing in the world. I"m hoping they turn out to be blood free and that we can figure out what little "B" is allergic to.
